Tēnā koe Callum
Thank you for your request of 13 February 2023 to Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities made
throug
h www.fyi.org.nz. You requested the following information under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act):
“
I formally wish to make a information request in regards to the following. I would like to know
the number of Autistic individuals living in Kainga Ora housing.”
Kāinga Ora provides public housing for customers with a wide range of needs. We do not hold
specific information on the number of customers with autism or other types of neurodiversity. I am
therefore refusing your request under section 18(g) of the Act, as the requested information is not
held, and I have no grounds for believing it is held by another agency.
While we do not hold specific data on autism or neurodiversity, information on the number of New
Zealanders living with different types of disability has been collected from the Ministry of Health, New
Zealand Disability Survey and the 2013 New Zealand Census, and is published in our Accessibility
Policy 2019 – 2022 (refer to Appendix E: Our data picture). This document may be of interest to you,
and is available at the following link
https://kaingaora.govt.nz/assets/Tenants-and-
communities/Documents/Kainga-Ora-Accessibility-Policy-PDF-FINAL-15.11.19.pdf.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of my decision on your
request. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
Freephone 0800 802 602.
Please note that Kāinga Ora proactively releases its responses to official information requests where
possible. Our response to your request may be published at
https:/ kaingaora.govt.nz/publications/official-information-requests/, with your personal information
removed.
