Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 16 March 2023, in
which you requested:
What measures are in place to ensure conformance with the requirement for
impartiality in §4.1 of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 when providing forensic services
accredited to that standard?
Police does not maintain accreditation covering forensic services. Impartiality, or bias as it
is referred to in the forensic industry, and the management of bias are integrated into
forensic training. Processes and procedures are in place to counter the effects of bias in
the work carried out by Police forensic staff.
Therefore, the information is refused pursuant to section 18(e) of the OIA as the
information you have requested does not exist.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied
with the response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is available
