Tēnā koe John Luke
Thank you for your email of 26 March 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
I would like to know for the COVID-19 Response Recognition Award:
1. how many applications or nominations for individual awards you have received
2. how many you have approved; and
3. how many you have declined.
4. Also, for the how many applications or nominations for organization/community group
awards you have received, how many you have approved and how many you have declined.
As per our letter to you on 10 May 2023, your request was partially transferred to the Department of
Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) on 11 May 2023 as they are the lead agency for the COVID-19
Recognition Award.
In terms of a response specifically concerning the data that MBIE holds, as of 8 May 2023, the number of
COVID-19 Response Recognition Award registrations, approved and declined by MBIE are as follows:
Individual Award Registrations Received
3997
Individual Award Registrations Approved
3255
Individual Award Registrations Declined
503
Organisation Award Registrations Received
129
Organisation Award Registrations Approved
84
Organisation Award Registrations Declined
39
With respect to questions 1) and 4) of your request, please note that some registrations were duplicate
registrations, and so were not actually declined, rather they were simply deactivated to ensure an
individual or an organisation only had a single registration for the award.
We apologise again for the delay in initially transferring your request to DPMC and responding to you.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about how to make a complaint is available
