Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 31 March 2023 to the 
Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama Aotearoa, requesting the following information: 
 
Please supply all gear correctional officer carry on them such as handcuffs, panic 
button, mace etc. Please also include other things they are able to carry or certain 
ranks can carry. Please also attach photos for each of the items. 
 
Please supply a list of all tactical gear corrections have such as cel  buster, riot 
shields, body armour etc. also attach photos for these. 
 
Work is underway to collate this information, however more time will be required to put 
together the complete list you have requested, with photographs. We wil  also need to 
undertaken consultation with multiple business groups to make decisions on releasing the 
information to you. 
 
Accordingly, Corrections needs to extend the timeframe of our response to your request by 
15 working days, pursuant to: 
 
•  section 15A(1)(a) of the OIA, as the request is for a large quantity of official 
information or necessitates a search through a large quantity of information and 
meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the operations of 
the department, and 
•  section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA, as consultations necessary to make a decision on the 
request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made 
within the original time limit. 
 
Therefore, you can expect to receive a response to your request by 24 May 2023.  If you no 
longer require this information please let us know as soon as possible.
