I refer to your information request dated 2 April 2023 made under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act). You have requested:
“the grade distribution of 200, 300, 400 and 500 level Bachelor of Dental Surgery papers for
2022.
This should specify how many students received each grade (A+, A, A-, etc) for each paper
across 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year, as well as the specific grade percentage of the highest
mark for each paper.
As well as the grade average and minimum grade average that received Bachelor of Dental
Surgery with distinction and also credit in 2022.”
Subject to the following comments, please see attached the information you have requested. Please
note that there are two pages in the attached spreadsheet.
• These results are correct as at 13 April 2023.
• In the attached grade distributions, we note that students who withdrew from the papers
are excluded from the data.
• The “specific grade percentage of the highest mark for each paper” part of your request has
been taken to mean what was the highest mark achieved for each paper, and how many
students achieved it.
• The “grade average and minimum grade average that received Bachelor or Dental Surgery
with distinction and also credit in 2022” part of your request has been determined in the
following way - an average result was calculated for each student across the course of their
Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree, those marks were then averaged to find the average
grade. The results provided are the total number of students at each average grade level
who graduated with Credit or Distinction.
• Please note that DENT553 is a Pass/Fail paper. All students passed in 2022.
I trust that this information will be helpful.
