Tēnā koe John
Thank you for your email of 03 April 2023 requesting information regarding the recent
gazettal of the appointment of a Trustee of the Riccarton Racecourse Recreation Reserve.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (‘OIA’).
You requested the following:
[…]
how did you call for public nomination and on what platform you have call for
public nominations, e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have
received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating
agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc. further, how many you have
shortlisted.
Please supply the pay rate and term of reference/job description of this role.
It may help to understand the response if I provide some background information about the
Board of Trustees of the Riccarton Racecourse. The Christchurch Racecourse Reserve Act
1878 appointed a Board of seven named Trustees, with perpetual succession. Originally,
Trustees were appointed by the Governor. Trustees are appointed until they resign, die, or
the position becomes otherwise vacant.
Under the Riccarton Racecourse Act 2016, the Minister of Conservation is responsible for
filling vacancies. Trustees are appointed from time-to-time as positions become vacant.
These are people generally active in the racing industry and recommended for appointment
by the Board. These appointments have been sub-delegated to Department of Conservation
(‘the Department’) staff and are usually done by gazette notice.
