Request made under the Official Information Act 1982 
 
Thank you for your email of 20 April 2023 requesting the fol owing information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
•  How many cameras does NZTA currently use to monitor roads and public spaces? 
•  Of these cameras, how many are made by Hikvision? 
•  If this information is available, I would also appreciate any further details regarding the use 
and maintenance of these cameras and if they wil  be phased out. 
 
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency currently has 1404 cameras in use to monitor roads and public 
spaces.  
 
There are 91 Hikvision cameras connected to the Transport Operation Centres. None of these 
cameras are owned or managed by Waka Kotahi, however their output images are integrated into our 
camera system. 
 
Al  relevant external parties have already been advised that these cameras wil  need to be replaced 
with another brand (when due for renewal) before being connected to our camera system.  
 
In line with Waka Kotahi policy, this response wil  soon be published on our website, with personal
