Dear John,
Thank you for your email on 22 April 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
“Thank you for your recent reply Ref: DOIA 2223-2157
I noted “There was no call for public nomination. The Minister of Immigration received
recommendations for candidates from officials based on the experience and community
knowledge of a number of government agencies. There was a long list of approximately 50
potential candidates.”
Can you let me know the exact number of potential candidates you have received. Can you also
let me know where exactly the recommendations come from, officials from which exact agency.”
Please see below my response to your requests:

Can you let me know the exact number of potential candidates you have received.
MBIE prepared a long list of 47 potential candidates following input from other government agencies.
The ten members of the Migrant Community Reference Group were selected from this list.
2. Can you also let me know where exactly the recommendations come from, officials from which exact
agency.
Recommendations were provided by:
• Ministry of Business innovation and Employment (MBIE) – from the Refugee and Migrant
Settlement and Customer branches within Immigration New Zealand
• Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP)
• Ministry for Ethnic Communities (MfEC)
