Dear James
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 30 April 2023. You
requested:
Total number of call outs/incidents on Karangahape Road ( K rd ) Auckland,
attended by Police on a month by month basis from November 2020 until
May 1st 2023.
The number of violent incidents that have occurred and had Police
involvement on Krd since November 2020 on a month by month basis until
May 1st 2023.
When Police communication centres receive a request for service, an event is entered in
the Communication and Resource Deployment (CARD) system. Events may come via
many sources, not just phone, and may include officer-discovered events. For clarity,
Police now refers to these as CARD events rather than call outs or calls for service – to
avoid confusion with phone calls.
CARD events can only have one code type, and Police practice is to code the most
serious risk or al eged offence. CARD code types have generic offence codes and
incident codes. I have interpreted “violent incidents” as those CARD events that have
been categorised as minor, serious, grievous assaults, or robbery.
Between 1 November 2020 and 30 April 2023, Police attended 1,692 CARD events
located on Karangahape Road in the Auckland City Police District. This excludes events
considered to be police-generated. This includes all events at al addresses at
Karangahape Road, not specifical y just those outside on the street. The most common
events were disorder and breach of the peace. Of these 1,692 events, 161 events were
minor, serious, grievous assaults, or robbery. The table below shows this information by
month.
