I refer to your online Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 3 May 2023, in which
you ask:
Can I please have the following information:
1. Number of search warrants sought in relation to Arms Act offences executed
by NZ Police in 2021 and 2022, separated by District and month.
2. Number of S18 Search and Surveil ance Act 2012 warrantless searches that
were conducted by Police in 2021 and 2022, seperated by District and month.
In response to your request, please see the information contained in the following tables.
Table 1 below shows the number of search warrants executed by Police in 2021, where the
qualifying offence listed was from the Arms Act 1983, listed by Police district and month.

Location data recorded in the attached tables which appears as “not specified” has resulted
from the automated script being used to recover the data from Police systems being unable
to determine the location without substantial manual intervention and reconciliation.
To obtain the location details for these occurrences, each individual record would have to
be retrieved and manual y examined to obtain the location data. Therefore, the provision of
this location information for those occurrences listed as “not specified” in the above tables
is refused under s18(f) of the Official Information Act 1982 – namely because the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
