I refer to your information request dated 18 May 2023 made under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act). You have requested:
“the number of students going on clinical placement for ALM who chose each of Wellington,
Dunedin, or Christchurch as their first choice as well as the number of students who ended up
at each campus. I would like this data for the years 2022, 2021, 2020, and 2019”.
Subject to following comments, please find below the information you have requested.

The information provided is for preferences and enrolments related to 400-level enrolments
into Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
•
Mismatches between the total number of first preferences and the total number of students
enrolled in a given ALM year occur largely because preferences are registered many months
before enrolment. There are many reasons why a student may not progress directly from their
ELM 3 year to ALM 4. Additionally, a small number of ALM 4 students may repeat or re-enter
ALM 4 in a subsequent year.
