Official information request for information on funding provided to Te Matatini
I refer to your official information request dated 9 June 2023 for details of any and all funding the
Māori Health authority has provided to Te Matatini/Te Matatini Inc.
Te Matatini Herenga Waka, Herenga Tangata festival is regarded as the pre-eminent Māori
cultural event in Aotearoa, attracting attendance of more than 70,000 people over the four days
of the festival. The total cost to Te Aka Whai Ora for participating as a strategic partner
(sponsorship) in Te Matatini 2023 was $100,000 (GST exclusive).
Sponsorship included:
• Hosting Te Matatini Chair’s evening event, with attendees including hauora Māori
partners, our agency partners, Iwi Chairs, and Iwi representatives.
• An exhibitor site for Te Aka Whai Ora, where we could talk to whānau and hold
meetings, including discussing the Therapeutic Products Bill. Te Aka Whai Ora also
accommodated Kūwatawata - Mahi a Atua, a collective organisation that includes six
hauora organisations, which was promoting rongoā and mental health services at Te
Matatini.
• Inclusion of Te Aka Whai Ora logo in media and advertising, on Te Matatini website, and
recognition in Te Matatini festival programme.
• Exhibitor passes and tickets for Te Matatini.
Te Aka Whai Ora intends to make the information contained in this letter and any attached
documents available to the wider public. We will do this by publishing this letter and attachments
on our website. Your personal details will be deleted, and Te Aka Whai Ora will not publish any
information that would identify you as the person who requested the information.
