OIA request 22/23 0987 Request for Citizenship status of a named person 
Thank you for your Official Information Act (Act) request received by the Ministry of Business, 
Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on 20 June 2023. 
As advised in an email to you from MBIE on 29 June 2023, the portion of your request relating to 
citizenship was transferred to us (Department of Internal Affairs) pursuant to section 14(b) of 
the Act. This provides that the information, or some of the information, to which the request 
relates is believed by the person dealing with the request to be held by, or more closely 
connected with the functions of another Minister or department. 
For this portion, you requested –   
Please provide all records held by MBIE in regards the admission of Colin David Rath to 
this nation and the granting of visas, residency, and citizenship status to him. 
In response to your request, the Department will not be releasing this information pursuant to 
section 9(2)(a) of the Act. This is because the withholding of any information the Department 
may or may not hold is necessary to protect the privacy of a natural person. 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
