Kia ora Josiah
I refer to your information request dated 7 July 2023 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act). You have requested information in relation to Health Professional Programme entrance scores
broken down by category and sub-category.
We note we wrote to you on 7 August 2023 to advise that we required some additional time to respond to
your request – to 21 August 2023. We are now able to provide the information you have requested.
Please find this below, subject to the following comments:
•
The calculations used for calculating scores for each programme and category are described on our
Guidelines for Admission to Health Sciences professional programmes webpages. Please note that
Graduate scores are not calculated using the same method for every programme, and the method
for the Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) category differs for the 1 Year Tertiary category.
•
With regard to the Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH), Bachelor of Dental Technology (BDentTech), and
Bachelor of Radiation Therapy (BRT) programmes, please note:
o
Students in HSFY apply for these programmes via the 1 Year Tertiary study category, rather
than HSFY category. They receive an average GPA calculation which may differ to the scoring
in the HSFY category. This category also includes applicants who have studied one year of a
non-HSFY programme.
o
Selection for these programmes is determined by additional factors beyond what is used for
the other programmes. Information about selection can be found on the University
website.
Due to the differing selection criteria, the listed data is not indicative of the sufficient criteria
for an application to be successful.
•
In the tables below, SPP means Single Programme Preference and N/A means there were no
applications. Single Programme Preference allows students to signal a strong commitment to a
particular programme. The Admissions Committees for programmes which allow Single Programme
Preference applications will firstly select from those who apply under Single Programme Preference.
Thereafter if domestic places are still available, the Committee will select from all other categories.
•
On occasions where fewer than five students were admitted under a category and/or sub-category
(“<5”), we have determined that it is necessary to withhold the admission score information for
these students to protect their privacy and wellbeing pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act. We
consider that withholding this information is necessary to protect against the identity of these
students being determined or inferred, and their personal information (i.e. their scores) being
disclosed.
