I refer to your request for information dated 12 July 2023, which was received by Greater
Wel ington Regional Council (Greater Wel ington) on 12 July 2023. You have requested the
fol owing:
“Total monthly patronage counts for diesel passenger rail services in 2022:
1) Total patronage counts (both inbound and outbound) for al main stops along the Wel ington
to Palmerston North express (diesel) service line by month.
2) Total patronage counts (both inbound and outbound) for al main stops along the Wel ington
to Wairarapa express (diesel) service line by month.”
Greater Wellington’s response follows:
1. Total patronage counts (both inbound and outbound) for al main stops along the
Wel ington to Palmerston North express (diesel) service line by month
This is not a service which is run by Greater Wel ington. As such, your request has been
transferred to KiwiRail as the operator of this service. A letter was sent to you on 20 July 2023
to notify you of this transfer.
2. Total patronage counts (both inbound and outbound) for al main stops along the
Wel ington to Wairarapa express (diesel) service line by month.
We do not hold data by stop for rail, only overal monthly patronage numbers by line (as
reported to us by Transdev). As such we are refusing this part of your request under section
17(g)(i) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 as the information
requested is not held by Greater Wel ington Regional Council, another local authority or a
department or Minister of the Crown or organisation.
