Thank you for your email of 17 July 2023, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
I would like information on the number of escooter- related claims since their introduction into New
Zealand in October 2018 until present. I am particularly interested to know how many relate to the
escooter user, and how many relate to other road users including pedestrians. Information by year,
user/non-user, sex, cost to ACC, and severity of injury if available would be appreciated. If you have
any information on escooter ownership related to the crash that would also be appreciated, ie is it a
hire vehicle or privately owned.

We are unable to provide information on E-scooter ownership
This is because information outlining whether an E-scooter was privately owned or rented is not collected
by ACC or generally mentioned in the accident description of these claims. As this information is not held by
ACC, it is refused under section 18(g)(i) of the Act.
