Tēnā koe Mike,
OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT 1982 (OIA) – REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION -
CHRISTCHURCH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED (CIAL)
1.
We write further to our email of 08 August 2023, acknowledging receipt of your OIA
request (the
Request) of 08 August 2023 seeking the following information (if held
by CIAL) in relation to international visitors vital to the Central Otago economy.
Request: Received 08 August 2023 – International visitors vital to the Central
Otago economy:
“In a meeting in Wānaka, Rhys Boswell said that without international visitors, some
key events would probably not take place. He specifically mentioned the Festival of
Colour which takes place every two years.
Please provide:
•
The data which supports this statement, specifically in relation to the Festival
of Colour;
•
Copies of all correspondence with the Festival of Colour;
•
Data which supports this claim in relation to all other events which form part
of the analysis.”
From the outset, Rhys Boswell’s comments were referring to the fact that visitor
spending sustains business that Central Otago residents enjoy having access to. This
was in the context of visitors generally and did not distinguish between international
and domestic. In addition, Mr Boswell was sharing his perspective and citing the
Festival of Colour as an example piece.
In response to your Request, more information on how visitor spending sustains
businesses and events that Central Otago residents enjoy having access to can be
found in the following paper below:
https://www.centralotagoairport.co.nz/uploads/images/COA-How-do-visitors-
contribute-Info-paper.pdf
Specifically on page 4 of the abovementioned paper, you will note that 88.3% of
employment in the arts and recreation sector is sustained by visitor spending.
2.
We trust we have answered your Request for information. If you require any further
information or we have in some way misinterpreted your requests, please let us know.
3.
