I refer to your information request dated 9 August 2023 made under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act). You have requested:
“What is the BDS interview selection criteria for the HSFY category for 2024?”
As long as all other requirements for admission are met as per th
e Regulations for the Degree of
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), all students who meet the UCAT thresholds are offered an
interview. The interview is a structed interview consisting of three sections: Motivation, Decision
Making, and Communication. All sections have the same format and are weighted equally. Offers are
not necessarily given to applicants with the highest interview scores. Once the interview score
thresholds are set, offers are made to students who have met these threshold scores as well as
meeting all other admission criteria as per the programme regulations. For the HSFY category,
selection of applicants who have met these criteria will be based on their average mark in the Health
Sciences First Year papers.
UCAT thresholds for 2024 entry to the BDS programme are yet to be confirmed.
I trust that this information will be helpful.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request, section 28(3) of the Act
provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate and review this response. However,
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
