Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request received 15 August 2023
in which you requested:
I would like to access a breakdown of the full traffic infringement revenue earn by
age group please
Police have no record of the total amount of revenue generated from infringements as
this money is paid to the Crown. However, it is possible to provide the face value
infringement fee amount of the notices issued which we have done. Note that this wil not
equal the total amount paid. Please refer to the tables provided below.
Note the following caveats:
This reply contains provisional data which is drawn from a dynamic operational
database. This is subject to change as new information is recorded or recoded.
If the infringement fee is not paid in full by the due date, it is referred to the
Ministry of Justice for enforcement of a 'fine'. Police do not record whether the
infringement fees referred to Ministry of Justice are paid, remain outstanding, or
whether the requirement to pay the fee has been withdrawn.
This data also excludes al offences which have no infringement fee and are
instead dealt with by way of a court hearing and a court imposed fine.
Police does not directly benefit from the number of infringement notices issued; the
money generated is paid directly into the Government’s consolidated fund. Police's focus
is not on any fees imposed as a result of infringement notices issued, but rather on
drivers detected breaking the law and thereby posing a risk to other road users.
