Re: National Party Electoral Candidate on Auckland Unlimited Board
Thank you for your email of 22 August 2023 about Hinurewa te Hau. Your specific request
and our response are set out below.
1. Is Hinurewa te Hau a current functioning member of Auckland Unlimited Board and/or
any other council entites [sic]?
Hinurewa te Hau is a director of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU) only.
2. Is a leave period imposed on her in her role as Director of Auckland Unlimited / any other
roles Hinurewa holds.
Section 8.13 of the
Appointment and Remuneration Policy for Board Members of Council
Organisations applies. This requires that directors who are candidates for election stand
down from their board position from nomination day until the election results are notified.
Nomination day for the 2023 General Election is 15 September. However – as recorded in
the TAU 26 July 2023 board meeting minutes – Hinurewa te Hau intended to stand back
from the board earlier (from 31 August 2023).
3. a. When was the last Auckland Unlimited Board Meeting and other official meetings she
attended in her capacity as board member and the monies gained from this.
Hinurewa te Hau attended the 30 August 2023 TAU Board meeting as a TAU Director.
Hinurewa te Hau receives a Director Fee of $41,100 per annum, but wil not receive Director
Fees while on her leave of absence.
b. If not in leave period, is she following council protocols regarding board Directors
running for Parliamentary office.

Along with the other TAU Directors, Hinurewa te Hau was appropriately invited to attend the
FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Pōwhiri on 15 July solely in her capacity as a TAU Director;
and was appropriately invited and at ended the Italy vs Argentina football match on 28 July
solely in her capacity as a TAU Director.
