OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT 1982 (OIA) – REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION –
CHRISTCHURCH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED (‘CIAL’)
1.
We write further to our email of 24 August 2023, acknowledging receipt of your OIA
request of 23 August 2023 seeking information (if held by CIAL) in relation to the
proposed Central Otago airport project (the
Project):
Request: Received 23 August – Tourism 2050 Blueprint
“
Please provide all correspondence with TIA on the Tourism 2050 Blueprint (released
August 2023)”
2.
CIAL will provide you with the requested information where it is able. However, you
will note within this letter that it is occasionally unable to release requested
information, if the information requested is subject to any of the exclusions within the
OIA.
In respect of your request, we respond as follows:
Correspondence between CIAL and the Tourism Industry Aotearoa
3.
Please find enclosed 2 redacted emails between CIAL and the Tourism Industry
Aotearoa (‘
TIA’) in relation to the establishment of the Industry Development Group
(‘
IDG’). The agreement is confidential and therefore this is withheld in accordance
with Section 9(2)(ba)(i) of the OIA.
Correspondence within IDG
4.
Justin Watson was a foundation member of the IDG, a non-public group comprising
leaders from across the Aotearoa New Zealand tourism industry, established by the
TIA to enable and support the direction of the tourism industry as part of the COVID-
19 recovery. The IDG and its deliberations are not subject to the OIA.
5.
We are of the view that any correspondence we hold between Justin Watson, in
fulfilling his role on the IDG, and other members of the IDG is confidential and the
disclosure of such information to the public may prejudice the supply of similar
information which is in the public interest they receive. Accordingly, at this time, the
information is withheld under Section 9(2)(ba)(i) of the OIA.
6.
We trust we have answered your requests for information. If you require any further
information or we have in some way misinterpreted your requests, please let us know.
7.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of the
decisions contained in this letter. Information about how to contact the Ombudsman
or make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone
0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
