Please note for al questions asked I want confirmation of expenditure incurred by Te
Māngai Pāho to pay New Zealand Rugby Union Incorporated. Therefore, if the
terminology used regarding sponsorship or outcomes is incorrect this does not void the
question and it should be answered in the above context.
We confirm that your request has been considered by Te Māngai Pāho. Please see our
response below:
1. In July 2021, during the All Blacks v Tonga Steinlager Series Test match at Mt
Smart Stadium the Te Māngai Pāho half time show with Hollie Smith was
carried out. Can you confirm the amount of sponsorship that was provided to
New Zealand Rugby Union Incorporated in sponsorship of this event? At their meeting in July 2021, the Te Māngai Pāho Board approved up to
$200,000 (plus GST) to partner with Te Taura Whiri o te Reo Māori (Te Taura
Whiri) on a 50/50 basis to col aborate with New Zealand Rugby to promote te reo
Māori. There was a minimum of five home games (All Blacks, Māori All Blacks and
Black Ferns) to be played, and Te Māngai Pāho and Te Taura Whiri would
col aborate to secure good opportunities for the promotion of te reo Māori in
conjunction with those games.
2. Can you also, confirm if any amounts are still owed to New Zealand Rugby
Union Incorporated for this event?
We can confirm that to date no funding has been paid to New Zealand Rugby
Union Incorporated for these events.
3. In 2021 there was also an agreement that funds would be provided to New
Zealand Rugby Union Incorporated to support Te Reo Broadcast
outcomes. Can you confirm the amount of funds provided to New Zealand
Rugby Union Incorporated for this outcome?
As set out above in our response above to question 1, funding has been approved
but no formal agreement has been entered into and no funding has been
provided to New Zealand Rugby Union Incorporated.
4. Can you also, confirm if any amounts are still owed to New Zealand Rugby
Union for this outcome?
We can confirm that subject to a formal Agreement being entered into Te Māngai
Pāho would expect to provide payment to New Zealand Rugby Union
Incorporated for the opportunities secured to promote te reo Māori.
Please note that you have the right under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to make a complaint to the Ombudsmen if you are not satisfied with the decision of
Te Māngai Pāho to withhold certain information.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss the request, please do not hesitate to contact
us.
