I refer to your information request dated 25 September 2023 made under the Official Information Act 
1982. You have requested: 
 
“A distribution of the HSFY overall averages for 2019, 2021, 2022 and only Semester 1 for 
2023, exclusively for domestic students. 
 
Additionally, how many people get an offer in the general category from first-round offers and 
then a further how many get offers from the waitlist for years 2019 – 2022?”  
 
We note that on 26 September 2023, you clarified the first part of your request to be for the 
“cumulative individual academic averages (i.e., their overall BEST 7 paper averages – hence not just 
their HSFY papers as soon individuals do Māori, stats etc.) for the top 200 students for 2019, 2021, 
2022. In addition, I’d like the domestic student overall cumulative average for Semester 1 2023 for the 
top 200 people as well”. 
 
Please see below our response to your request. 
 
1.  Distribution of the HSFY overall averages for 2019, 2021, 2022 and only Semester 1 for 2023, 
exclusively for domestic students. 
 
Subject to the following comments, please see the attached spreadsheet which shows the cumulative 
average scores of the top 200 (approx.) domestic students enrolled in Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) 
from 2019 – 2023.  
 
•  the 2019 – 2022 cumulative average scores are calculated across the top 7 paper results for 
each domestic student enrolled in HSFY. The 2023 cumulative average scores are calculated 
across the 4 HSFY papers (CELS191, CHEM191, HUBS191, PHSI191) taken by domestic students 
in Semester 1 2023.  
 
•  please note that all final grades for papers completed in Semester 1 2020 were increased by 5 
marks to account for disruptions created by COVID-19.

2.  How many get an offer in the general category from first-round offers and then a further

We are awaiting clarification from our Admissions Office regarding the information you have 
requested. As soon as this information has been clarified, we will provide a response to you with
