Request for information in relation to mayoral expenses  
1.  We refer to your request for Official Information received by Council on 8 October 2023 for the 
fol owing information: 
 
a.  Please provide copies of al  Mayoral expenses since he/she was elected (for their entire 
tenure if they were re-elected). Happy to receive only the last seven years if he/she has been 
in office for longer. 
 
b.  This information should be readily available so should not need to be created, nor should it be 
difficult to extract. This should also not come at an expense as the public interest test should 
be applied. 
 
c.  Costs should include, but not be limited to travel and accommodation costs, vehicle / fuel / EV 
costs etc, hospitality / entertainment, gifts, public relations, advertising etc. This must include 
amounts charged to existing accounts, not just expenditure claimed back from him/him in the 
form of claims. This wil  include the reasons for spending public money.  
  
2.  The LGOIMA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days 
after the day we receive your request. Unfortunately, due to the quantity of information involved, it will 
not be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the 
time to make our decision, to 15 November 2023.  
 
3.  This extension is required because consultations with Council’s Finance Team are necessary to make a 
decision on your request. These are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the 
original time limit. 
 
4.  You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision in relation to 
the  extension  under  LGOIMA.  Information  about  how  to  make  a  complaint  is  available  at 
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or free phone 0800 802 602.
