I refer to your information request dated 13 October 2023 made under the Official Information Act
1982. You requested:
“the distribution of GPAs of all those enrolled in a PPE major at second year or above.”
We note that on 16 October 2023, you clarified that you were interested in receiving the cumulative
GPAs to date of all students enrolled in a Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) major who have
enrolled in at least one 200-level PHIL, POLS or ECON paper in 2023.
Subject to the following comments, please see attached the information you have requested.
• The data is correct as at 18 October 2023 and is calculated using all confirmed paper results as
of this date.
• As noted in your clarification email of 16 October, the data we have provided is limited to
students who meet all of the following criteria in the 2023 academic year:
o enrolled in the PPE Major; and
o enrolled in at least one 200-level PPE paper:
▪ ECON
▪ PHIL
▪ POLS
▪ PHPE (PHPE201 is a compulsory paper for second-year PPE majors)
Further information on the papers that can be taken as part of the PPE programme is
available on the University’
s website.
• Please note that the data we have provided includes students enrolled in the following degree
programmes:
o Bachelor of Arts (BA)
o Bachelor of Arts and Commerce (BACom)
o Bachelor of Arts and Science (BASc)
o Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
• Please note that cumulative GPA calculations include the results of all papers undertaken by
students to date (i.e., not just those taken for the PPE major), and will therefore include
student results from non-PPE papers at all year levels.
I trust that this information will be helpful.
Yours sincerely
