Thank you for your email of 19 October 2023 requesting information relating to permanent 
jobs advertised internally. Your request has been considered under the Official Information 
Act 1982 (OIA). 
 
You requested:  
 
Could you please provide the number of permanent Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 jobs that in the 
last 12 months were only advertised internally. 
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) advertise internally only for a number of reasons:  
•  When there is a preference for the successful candidate to be someone with existing 
knowledge of MPI systems or legislation. 
•  The role is for a short period of time.  
•  To provide opportunities for existing employees. 
There were 101 tier two, three and four positions advertised in the last twelve months. 35 were 
advertised internally only and 66 were advertised both internally and externally.  
Of the 35 permanent roles advertised internally only, there were no tier two positions, three tier 
three positions, and 32 tier four positions advertised.
