On 27 October we received a request from you for all planning and documentation relating to
the recent school event at Waipara Adventure Centre. We have interpreted this as referring to
the camp that was scheduled to take place between October 24 and 27, 2023. You stated that
you were particularly interested in risk assessment regarding cooking and the stove that was
involved in the incident.
The information held by Hokitika Primary School pertaining to camp planning and
documentation is enclosed, which includes safety information such as transport plans and
information given to parents. We have also included the RAMS given to the school by Waipara
Adventure Centre for this trip which have been compiled into a single PDF. All personal details
have been redacted to maintain the privacy of natural persons, as per section 9(2)(a) of the
Official Information Act 1982.
The information pertaining to the stove that resulted in injury such as whether it was inspected
and checked for safety before use and guidelines relating to who could operate the stove is not
held by the school.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
