I am responding to your email of 29 October 2023 to Te Tari Taiwhenua | the Department of
Internal Affairs requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act) regarding nominations for the Racing Integrity Board (the Board):
“May I ask how did you call for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations, e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications you have
received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating
agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc. Also, can you please supply the term
of appointment and member's pay rate. Further, the name of current board
member.”
I have interpreted your request as relating to the latest round of nominations for the Board. I
respond to each part of your request below.
How were the cal s for public nomination made, and on what platforms did Te Tari
Taiwhenua advertise the cal s?
Te Tari Taiwhenua advertised the nomination round for the Board on its public website,
www.dia.govt.nz. A nomination/expression of interest form and a candidate information
sheet, describing the role and selection criteria, were also available in the section of the
website about appointments to statutory bodies: www.dia.govt.nz/Appointments-to-
Statutory-Bodies.
Additionally, Te Tari Taiwhenua submitted a request for nominations to the agencies that
provide nominations for statutory bodies. This included the Ministry for Women, Te Puni
Kōkiri, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples, and the Ministry for Ethnic Communities. Te Tari
Taiwhenua also sought nominations from the key organisations within the Racing industry;
New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, Harness Racing New Zealand, New Zealand Greyhound
Racing, and TAB New Zealand.
How many applications were received from the public and how many were received from
other nominating agencies?
Te Tari Taiwhenua received two expressions of interest for the Board role from members of
the public, and two nominations from TAB New Zealand. We may however receive late
nominations from the key industry organisations.
The term of appointment and members’ pay rate
Members are appointed for a term of up to three years. Members are reimbursed at an
annual rate of $14,371 in accordance with the Cabinet Fees Framework. The estimated
workload is 15 days per annum. The Chair is reimbursed at an annual rate of $28,655, with
the estimated workload of 30 days per annum.
Names of current board members
The current members of the board are Kristy Pearl McDonald KC ONZM (Chair), Neville
Owen Harris QSO, Brent Donald Williams, Dr Patricia (Trish) Valerie Pearce, and Penny
Mudford ONZM.
