Tēnā koe John
On 30 October, you emailed Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People (Whaikaha)
requesting under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following
information:
“I noted Transformation Management Board - Call for Interest. May I ask:
1.
How did you call for public nominations 2.
What platform you have call for public nominations, e.g. govt.jobs
website.
3.
Also, how many applications you have received from the public
4.
How many you have received from other nominating agencies such
as TPK or Ministry of women etc.
5.
Further, how many you have shortlisted.
6.
Also, can you please supply the term of appointment and member's
pay rate.”
Whaikaha is committed to working in partnership with disabled people, Māori
and Government to transform the disability support system in line with the
Enabling Good Lives (EGL) approach. The Transformation Management Board
(the Board) is one of many partnerships both underway and being established to
transform the disability support system, so it improves the lives of disabled
people and tāngata whaikaha Māori throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. The
Board is being established to provide governance over a defined transformation
work programme.
To ensure disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori are at the decision-
making table, we invited expressions of interest (EoI) to join our Transformation
Management Board for six roles.
The EoI process opened on 11 October 2023, seeking nominations for membership.
Public nominations were sought through the Whaikaha website through the
webpage and website news section. Other mechanisms to call for nominations were
through letters to disability groups, Disabled Peoples Organisations, Community

Updates, Social Media advertisements, and nominations databases of Whaikaha and
four other government agencies.
All nominations were received through the process as advertised on the website,
with no nominations received through Government agencies, as Whaikaha sought
self-nomination from the community through a range of community focussed
channels.
68 people applied through this process, and interviewing of shortlisted candidates
is currently underway. The interview panel is made up of both Whaikaha and
disabled community representatives.
The Board members will be responsible for:
•
Reviewing the progress of the transformation programme,
•
approving the allocation of funding to specific initiatives,
•
identifying the potential areas for re-prioritisation to better support
transformation,
•
agreeing on what responsibilities need to be managed nationally, where
consistency is required and where regional and local flexibility will lead to
better outcomes for disabled people and their family/whānau and carers.
The Term of appointment is December 2023 through until December 2025.
Members remuneration is based off the Cabinet Fee’s framework. They will be
remunerated at $600 per day, and expected to meet 5-6 times a year. Total
remuneration (preparation, follow up and meetings) over a year will be up to
$6,000 to $7,200.
In the period since your letter was received, Whaikaha has reflected on the
membership of this Board and decided to add two additional places, one for
whānau of tāngata whaikaha Māori and one for a family member of a disabled
person. A further Call for Interest for these two roles was announced on Monday
20 November and is open until 5pm on Wednesday 6 December.
Proactive Release of this information The principles and purposes of the Act 1982 under which you made your request
