Thank you for your request to the Department of Conservation, received on 07 November
2023, in which you asked for:
Please can you provide records of the flight paths and numbers of deer killed for all WARO
operations on the Brunners Range, Victoria Forest Park, South Island, since 1 January 2023.
We have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982.
I regret that I am not able to provide you with the information you seek as the Department
does not currently collect the information you have requested. I must therefore refuse your
request under section 18(g) of the Official Information Act, as the information is not held by
the Department.
I note that we are currently in the process of reviewing the WARO permit conditions, with the
intention to include conditions to collect this information in the future.
You are entitled to seek an investigation and review of my decision by writing to an
Ombudsman as provided by section 28(3) of the Official Information Act.
Please note that this letter (with your personal details removed) may be published on the
Department’s website.
If you would like to discuss this response with us, please contact Mike Perry, Wild Animals
Manager by email to [email address]
