Official Information Act request
Thank you for your information request dated 8 December 2023.
On 8 December 2023, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage transferred your request to Te
Puni Kōkiri for response. Your request has been considered in accordance with the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act). Your questions and my responses are as follows:
I have addressed each of the points you raised.
1. “How you called for public nomination [to] – Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trust
and on what platform you have call[ed] for public nominations mostly
recently e.g. govt.jobs website. How many applications you have received
from the public and other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of
Women etc”
Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trust (the Trust) is a registered charitable trust on the
Charities Register. The Trust is not bound by legislation, but rather it functions in
accordance with its Trust Deed.
Members of Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trust are appointed by the Minister of Māori
Development and the Minister for Culture and Heritage. Suitable candidates are
identified through discussions with the Trust.
At the time of this request no nominations had been received from nominating
agencies since 2015.
2. “Supply the term of appointment and member’s pay rate”
The Trust Deed allows for the appointment of three to five Trustees for a term of
between one and five years. Each Trustee (including the Chairperson) shall continue
to hold office, notwithstanding the expiry of their tenure, as they are eligible for
reappointment or until they are replaced by new trustees.
The members’ pay rates are set and made by the Trust, not by Te Puni Kōkiri.
Therefore, this part of your request is refused under Section 18(g) of the Act, as the
information is not held by Te Puni Kōkiri.
3. “[Supply] further meeting minutes for Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trust
from 1st Jan 2022 to now”.
This information is not held by Te Puni Kōkiri. Therefore, this part of your request is
refused under Section 18(g) of the Act, as the information is not held.
You may wish to contact the Trust directly for further information.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
response.
