Your Official Information Act request OIA2324-0396
Thank you for your Official Information Act request, which we received on 5 December 2023.
You have asked:
Are there any plans to change the NZ Passport cover to feature English first then Te
Reo. If so, what is the date of the change? If not, has this issue been raised since the
National led government was sworn in recently? Please provide any/al
correspondence relating to this matter.
Wil Te Tari Taiwhenua be changing the order of its agency name back to Department
of Internal Affairs first then the Te Reo translation 2nd? If so, when wil this change
come into effect?
In response to your request, there are no plans underway to change the current language
format of the New Zealand Passport cover. There are also no plans to change the order of
the name of the Department so English appears first. We have not had any conversations or
correspondence with the Government on these subjects.
Your request for any/al correspondence on these issues is declined under section 18(e) of
the OIA as the information does not exist.
We intend to publish our response to your request on www.dia.govt.nz. The letter, with your
personal details removed, wil be published in its entirety. Publishing responses increases
the availability of information to the public and is consistent with the Act’s purpose of
enabling more effective participation in the making and administration of laws and policies
and promoting the accountability of Ministers and officials.
If you have any feedback or questions about the Department’s response, please let us know
at [email address]
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
