Your request for official information, reference: HNZ00033676
I refer to your request for information, transferred to Te Whatu Ora on 9 November 2023,
requesting the following which has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act):
“… details of the Cardiac Callouts involving Heart Issues from 01.01.2017 - to the
31.05.2022 inclusive, broken down by month and age bands as follows:- 0-9, 10-19, 20-29,
30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90 and above”.
Te Whatu Ora does not hold data broken down into age bands, and the data captured by rotary
wing (helicopter) air ambulance providers is not detailed enough to enable us to accurately quantify
cardiac incidents. In addition, the way cardiac arrest data was captured by road ambulance
providers (Hato Hone St John and Wellington Free Ambulance) changed from 1 July 2018, which
makes it dif icult to compare data prior to that date.
We do, however, hold the number of road ambulance callouts for cardiac arrests from 1 July 2018
to 31 May 2022, broken down by month. This data is enclosed as
Annex One.
We are refusing the remainder of your request under section 18(g) of the Act, because the
information requested is not held by us and we have no grounds for believing that the information
is held by another department.
You may wish to contact Hato Hone St John and Wellington Free Ambulance directly to ask if they
hold data that includes age bands. Please note, they are not subject to the Act and therefore not
obligated to respond. You can contact Hato Hone St John at
[email address] and Wellington
Free Ambulance at
[email address].
