[FYI request #25146 email] Tēnā koe Stephen
Thank you for your request to the Department of Conservation, received on 12 December
2023, in which you asked:
‘On 8 September a Treasury email Identified that Kanoa had advised there was only
1 viable commercial operator who are bidding for Turoa only.
This request is for key internal and external correspondence related to the withdrawal
of WHL from the bidding process for Whakapapa Ski Field.’
We have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
Typically, we would transfer such a request to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (MBIE) under section 14(b)(ii) of the OIA. This is because management of the
commercial bid process for Ruapehu Alpine Lifts is more closely connected with the
functions of MBIE.
We have consulted with MBIE and understand it has already received the same request from
you – accordingly, no transfer is necessary. As such, this letter is to confirm that the
Department will take no further action on your request - but you can expect a response
directly from MBIE in due course.
You are entitled to seek an investigation and review of my decision by writing to an
Ombudsman as provided by section 28(3) of the OIA.
Nāku noa, nā
