Tēnā koe John,
Official Information Act 1982 (OIA): Industry Advisory Group Nominations
We refer to your OIA request made via email dated 14 December 2023 in which you requested the
following with regards to REA’s call for nominations for four Industry Advisory Groups:
“May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations for the Industry Advisory Group, e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, after the closing
date, can you please let me know how many applications you have received from the public
and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of
women etc. How many you have shortlisted and interviewed.”
We have considered your request under the OIA.
Our response to your request
For the reasons explained below we do not have the information you are seeking. This is because the
REA Industry Advisory Groups (IAGs) are formed from nominees from the real estate sector who are
subject to oversight from REA. We call for nominations from the sector through our sector
communication channels, including on our website and through our Panui/newsletter that goes to all
licensed real estate professionals (licensees) and on our LinkedIn page.
Membership of these particular advisory groups is not open to the general public or representatives of
other industries. There is no remuneration for members, and they are not decision-making bodies. The
fu
ll Terms of Reference for the new Industry Advisory Groups are published on rea.govt.nz.
Paragraph 6 of the Terms of Reference specifies the IAGs to be established with representatives from
the following real estate licensee groups:
a. New licensees (less than 3 years’ experience in the sector)
b. Supervisors and/or compliance officers
c. Rural, commercial and business broking
d. Residential
Paragraph 13 of the Terms of Reference specifies the criteria for selecting IAG members as follows:
a. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in real estate agency work and/or
management;
b. Representation from across New Zealand;
c. Representation of different ability, ethnicity, age, gender and other relevant factors;
d. Representation from one of the four sub-sectors: residential, rural, commercial and
industrial, and business broking; and
e. Representation from across different agency models and sizes in the sector.
Information being released
Taking into account the above we respond to your request as follows:
• “
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations for the Industry Advisory Group, e.g. govt.jobs website”
o We did not call for public nominations. Nominations from the real estate sector were called in
November 1st edition of REA’s Pānui email newsletter, which is sent to all active licensed real
estate professionals within REA’s database (i.e. all individuals and company officers of
agencies which hold a licence to undertake real estate agency work in New
Zealand). Information about the IAGS was also included on REA’s website and LinkedIn Page.
• “
how many applications you have received from the public and how many you have received
from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc.”
o No nominations for Industry Advisory Group members were received from the general public
or other government agencies
• “
How many you have shortlisted and interviewed”
o For the reasons above, no members of the public have been shortlisted and interviewed.
