Is air quality measured in Port Chalmers? And if so is it possible to have access to the data?
Air quality in Port Chalmers is not regularly monitored, however our science team have undertaken
two air quality studies in the last few years:
1. 2021 PM2.5 Study – PM2.5 data was collected for 3 months over winter 2021 as part of a
study across 14 airsheds in Otago. The data in relation to Port Chalmers was collected from
within two locations within the Port Chalmers airshed and the data is summarised in the
below report to Council:
https://www.orc.govt.nz/media/12900/pm2-5-investigation-in-otago-2021.pdf
2. 2023 SO2 Sulphur Dioxide Study – SO2 data was collected at 3 locaons within Port Otago
boundaries and 3 locaons outside of the Port for 8 months. This data is currently being
analysed with plans to report it to Council within the first half of this year. This will be made
public on ORC’s website at that me.
We trust this answers your request.
Yours sincerely
