Tēnā koe Johnny
Thank you for your email to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children (Oranga Tamariki),
which was received on 16 January 2024, requesting information on materials used to
inform briefings to Hon Karen Chhour, Minister for Children (the Minister), about serious
youth offending. Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act).
You have requested:
This is an OIA request for materials cited in recent briefings to your minister.
The government's 100 day agenda includes responding to 'serious youth offending'.
I understand that the briefings themselves are currently confidential. I am only
requesting a list of the materials used/referenced in these 100 day briefings on
serious youth offending.
That is, I am requesting the 'bibliography' for these briefings and, if available, links
or attachments to the materials.
It is important that all advice provided to Ministers from Oranga Tamariki is
well-researched and based on information from reliable sources and is presented in such
a way as to best inform decisions.
Your request has been interpreted as referring to only the sources cited in briefings
regarding serious youth offending and where they are publicly available. A list of the
sources, including links to the sources, is provided in Appendix One.
Oranga Tamariki may make the information in this letter available to the public by
publishing this letter on our website with personal details removed.
