[FYI request #25422 email]
Dear Aaron Moss
Thank you for your email of 17 January 2024 to the Ministry for the Environment (the
Ministry) requesting the following under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
1. Does the Ministry have any active Copilot for Microsoft 365 licenses?
2. If so, how many, and what is the total cost of this licensing?
3. If not, does the Ministry license any competing generative artificial intelligence
(Gen AI) or large language model (LLM) services?
In response to parts one and two of your request, the Ministry does not have any active
Copilot for Microsoft 365 licenses, therefore there is no total cost for licencing. For this
reason, I must refuse these parts of your request under section 18(e) of the Act, as the
document alleged to contain the information requested does not exist.
In response to part three of your request, the Ministry does not have any other competing
generative artificial intelligence or large language model services. Therefore, I must also
refuse this part of your request under section 18(e) of the Act, as the document alleged to
contain the information requested does not exist.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Of ice of the Ombudsman of
my decision relating to this request, in accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. The relevant
details can be found on their website at:
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Please note that due to the public interest in our work the Ministry for the Environment
publishes responses to requests for official information on our
OIA responses page shortly
after the response has been sent. If you have any queries about this, please feel free to
contact our Ministerial Services team:
