Thank you for your request, transferred to the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) on 24 January
2024, for the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
•
Correspondence between the Tertiary Education Commission and the Board Chairs of each
Workforce Development Council from the period 1 December to now.
To answer this request, the TEC has had no communications or correspondence with the Board
Chairs of the Workforce Development Councils (WDC) during the time period you have requested.
Based on this, I regret that I am not able to provide you with the information you have requested for
the following reason/s:
• Under section 18(e) - that the document al eged to contain the information requested does
not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found,
In addition to this decision, we have been asked by Minister Simmonds to reply to your request for:
•
Copies of Letters of Expectation to each of the Workforce Development Councils, which are as
fol ows: Waihanga Ara Rau, Toi Mai, Toitu Te Waiora, Hanga Ara Rau, Muka Tangata, Ringa
Hora.
I understand the Minister declined this request, also under section 18(e), as she, in her position as
the current Minister, has not sent letters of expectation to the WDC’s.
When the WDCs were first established in 2021, the TEC did send a letter of introduction, similar in
nature to a letter of expectation.
I am happy to provide you with a copy of this letter that was sent to each of the WDC’s in 2021. I
hope it answers the request you made to the Minister.
I am satisfied, in terms of section 9(1) of the Act, that the need to withhold the information referred
to above is not outweighed by other considerations that render it desirable, in the public interest, to
make the information available.
TERTIARY EDUCATION REPORT: CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN TEC AND THE BOARD CHAIRS OF WDCS
