Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 22 January 2024.
You wrote:
I would like to request any information pertaining to the evaluations of, and any
trial results for, both (Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) and In-Car Cameras (aka
Dashcams).
Police continues to monitor the use of body-worn cameras by various agencies and any
potential benefits for the New Zealand policing environment, but currently has no
immediate plans for their introduction.
Information about Police evaluations of emergent technologies, including body-worn
cameras, is publicly available1.
Police has not carried out any evaluations or trials of in-car cameras/dashcams.
Therefore, that part of your request is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA as the
information requested does not exist.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the
public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
