Thank you for your email of 24 January 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing:
1. Please advise the number of STR applications stil being processed as of 24 January 2024?
2. What is the number of immigration officers allocated to STR applications?
3. How many applications are waiting for third-party check outcomes in str?
4. the oldest application waiting for third-party check in str?
On 22 February 2024, we wrote to you advising that MBIE had extended the period of time available to
make a decision on your request under section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations were necessary to
make a decision and a proper response could not reasonably be made within the original time limit. We
also advised that we would notify you of a decision no later than 8 March 2024.
Our Response
Question 1
As at 24 January 2024, the number of Straight to Residence (STR) applications still being processed was
960.
Question 2
As at 5 March 2024, 24 immigration officers are assigned to process STR applications.
Question 3
As at 5 March 2024, 269 applications are awaiting third-party checks to be completed.
Question 4
As at 8 March 2024, the oldest application waiting for a third-party check to be completed was
submitted on 30 October 2022.
