Description of Work
Quad Bike - Chemical Application
No herbicides shall be shall applied in shopping in areas during business hours
All work is to be carried out with due regard to the members of the public and the Contractor is to ensure
the image of the Council is maintained at all times by ensuring all spray use is as safe as practically
possible for the applicator, the public, adjoining property owners and animals
All staff must have been signed off as competent riders
Hazards
Controls
Rollover
• Do not drive in excessively poor conditions (weather, visibility, or
surface, never carry passengers, when loading and unloading bike
ensure you are on level ground. Drive at speed low enough to keep
control over unexpected hazards
Collision
• Do not drive in excessively poor conditions (weather, visibility or
surface) never carry passengers,
DO NOT use faulty equipment
• Report suspect/faulty equipment immediately
• Drive at speed low enough to keep control over unexpected hazards
Pedestrians
• Always keep a look out for pedestrians, STOP operation when
pedestrians are in close proximity and wait till the way forward is clear
Mixing Chemicals
• Always wear correct PPE, you must read and follow the label
directions regarding PPE, mixing precautions, TV recipe as per job
sheet, mixing rates, withholding periods and other precautions
Eye Injuries / Head injuries
• Wear correct PPE, always wear approved helmet
Safe Work Procedure Checklist
Pre-operation:
• Task is clearly understood
• Fill out traffic management sheet for day, read and sign the Job Start form
• Check No Spray Zones for areas you are working in
• Follow manufacturers recommendations and warning labels, check the required application rates
• Locate and ensure you are familiar with all machine operations, controls, and warnings
• Check fuel, tyres, guards, drive line and brakes as recommended by the manufacturer
• Check nozzles are suitable for the required application parameters
• Always tell someone where you are going and estimated time of return
• Have appropriate communication (i.e. mobile phone) available
• Loading and unloading quad from trailer – make sure ramp lock pins are securely in place, make sure
trailer is still attached to tow vehicle

Operation:
• Do not carry passengers or any load that is not suitable or secured
• Observe speed limits and no-go areas
• Operate at speeds low enough to keep control of unexpected hazards
• Be aware of pedestrians – stop when in close proximity and wait until the way forward is clear
• Travel up/down slopes rather than across, taking extra care when ascending or descending slopes or
riding over uneven ground
Post-operation:
• Always park on even ground
• Lock the parking brake
• Stop the engine and remove the key
• Load quad onto trailer, ensure ramp locking pins are in, trailer is attached to tow vehicle, secure quad
to trailer with tie downs
• Ensure any unused chemical is stored safely and labelled correctly
• Complete the paperwork
• Return to base
