Call for expressions of interest for appointment to Council
The University of Canterbury’s Council, Te Kaunihera o Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha, is responsible for
the University’s governance in accordance with the powers set out in the Education and Training Act 2020.
The Council has oversight of University matters including its strategy, policy, finances, major capital projects,
delegations, health and safety and awards.
Council invites expressions of interest from persons, who are alumni of the University and have the attributes
of all or some of the following areas:
▪ governance experience with large complex organisations;
▪ strong finance, auditing and accounting skills;
▪ Pasifika experience.
The elected Council members would serve an initial term, of four years, from 1 January 2024 to 30 December
2027. Council members can be re-elected and can serve on Council up to a maximum of 12 years. Council
members are currently paid an honorarium of $35,000 per year. Council is seeking two new Council members.
