[FYI request #25779 email] Tēnā koe John Luke
I acknowledge your Official Information Act 1982 (Act) request received on 19 February 2024,
seeking information about Lincoln University Council member recruitment. Specifically, you
requested:
• the online platforms used
• the number of applications received from either members of the public or nominating
agencies
• the recruitment process
• the date the nomination period ends
• a copy of the advertisement.
In response, I can advise that Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki Lincoln University is not currently
advertising for a Council member. The current vacancy relates to ministerial appointments to
university councils. The process for ministerial appointments is managed by the Tertiary
Education Commission (TEC), not individual universities.
In our view, it would have been necessary under section 14 of the Act to transfer your request
to the TEC because the information you requested is held by that agency. However, we are
aware that you have already made requests for this information to the TEC, which has recently
provided you with information regarding this process. Therefore, we have not transferred it.
Lincoln University runs elections for staff members, but these are not publicly advertised. We
cannot recall the last time we made a public announcement or called for nominations to
become a member of the Lincoln University Council.
If you wish to discuss this response, please contact the undersigned.
Please note that you are entitled, under section 28 of the Official Information Act 1982, to have
this response reviewed by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Nāku noa, nā
Tim Lester
