Thank you for your email of 27 February 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
I would like to request the all materials about INZ's evaluation for the impact of 2021 resident
visa, such as this visa's benefits, costs, rationales and any negative impacts.
Our Response
The 2021 Resident Visa (2021 RV) is a one-off pathway launched on 1 December 2021 to
provide certainty for migrant families that faced disruption because of COVID-19, and to help
retain the skills New Zealand businesses need to support New Zealand’s economic recovery.
The Visa application process was designed to be simple, streamlined and easy for individuals

• Section 6(a), as making the information available would be likely to prejudice the
security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the

offences, and the right to a fair trial.
