Official information request for Review of Social Work 1999 
 
I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) 
dated 27 February 2024: 
 
“I would like to either be sent or given access to a copy of the Victoria University 
of Wellington Review of Social Work, 1999. 
 
I also request copies of or access to correspondence, both internal and external, 
in relation to the Review, including discussion of its terms of reference, 
personnel, process, conclusions, and whether it was to be released or not.” 
 
Following a review of the Social Work programmes at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria 
University of Wellington, a report titled ‘Review of the Social Work Programmes of the 
Department of Applied Social Sciences’ was produced in August 1998. 
 
In March 1999 the University Council resolved to disestablish the undergraduate Diploma 
in Social Work and the Department of Applied Social Sciences but continue to offer 
graduate education in Social Work. 
 
Copies of the Review of the Social Work Programmes of the Department of Applied Social 
Sciences that were provided to staff in August/September 1998 are attached, along with 
notifications to staff members. Also attached are relevant University Council reports and 
minutes from this time. Please note, some information has been withheld for the 
following reasons: 
• 
to protect the privacy of natural persons (s9(2)(a)); and 
• 
to maintain legal professional privilege (s9(2)(h)). 
 
The additional correspondence you have requested cannot be made available without 
substantial collation or research. Therefore, this aspect of your request is refused in 
accordance with s18(f) of the Act. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of the 
decisions made regarding this request. Information about how to make a complaint is
