Official Information Act request relating to Premier House 
 
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), received 
on 7 March 2024. You requested: 
 
[1]  How  many  nights  has  the  Prime  Minister  Christopher  Luxon  stayed  overnight  at 
Premier House since taking office? 
 
[2] What is the average cost of security and other staffing measures incurred when the 
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and his guests stay overnight at Premier House? 
 
[3]  Has  Prime  Minister  Christopher  Luxon  paid  for  this  cost  (i.e.  by  invoice,  salary 
deduction, or other means) each time he has stayed overnight since taking office? ” 
 
For ease of reference we have added the numbering for Parts [1] - [3] above. 
 
Partial transfer to the Prime Minister 
 
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet does not hold information relating to Part 
1 of your request. I believe this information is held by the Prime Minister (Rt Hon Christopher 
Luxon). Accordingly, I have decided to transfer this part of your request to the Prime Minister, 
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon under section 14(b)(i) of the Act.  
 
The  Prime  Minister  has  the  usual  timeframes  under  the  Act  from  receipt  of  this  transfer  to 
make a decision on your request.  
 
Partial transfer to the New Zealand Police 
 
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet does not hold information relating to the 
element of your request in Part 2 which relates to “security”. I believe this information is held 
by the New Zealand Police. Accordingly, I have decided to transfer this part of your request 
to the New Zealand Police under section 14(b)(i) of the Act.  
 
The  New  Zealand  Police  have  the  usual  timeframes  under  the  Act  from  receipt  of  this 
transfer to make a decision on your request.  
 
Partial transfer to the Department of Internal Affairs 
 
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet does not hold information relating to the 
element of your request in Part 2 which relates to “other staffing measures”, and Part 3 of 
your request. I believe this information is held by the Department of Internal Affairs.
