I refer to your email of 10 March 2024 in which you request the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
Accordingly, I kindly request the following information:
1. Diplomatic Communications:
Records of any communications, discussions, or correspondence with the United States
and other countries regarding UAPs from January 2010 to the present.
This includes, but is not limited to, exchanges with embassies, diplomatic missions, and
international organizations.
2. International Forums and Discussions:
Details of New Zealand's participation in any international forums, meetings, or discussions
that addressed airspace security and UAPs. Information on any official statements,
positions, or contributions made by New Zealand representatives on the topic of UAPs.
3. Inter-agency Coordination:
Information on how MFAT coordinates with other New Zealand government agencies (e.g.,
the Ministry of Defence, the New Zealand Space Agency) on matters related to UAPs in an
international context.
4. Research and Analysis:
Any research, reports, or analysis conducted or commissioned by MFAT regarding UAPs
and their implications for international relations and national security.
Understanding the sensitivity of the subject, I am open to receiving redacted versions of
documents where necessary. Should some of the requested information be more
appropriately held by another government entity, I would appreciate guidance or referral
to the relevant agency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (the Ministry) has no record of the information you
have requested. Accordingly, your request is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the
information does not exist.
