Tēnā koe OP,
I refer to your information request dated 11 March 2024 made under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act). You have requested information in relation to the allocation of medical school fees towards
tutorials, lectures, laboratory classes, printing, Moodle and other online learning platforms (including
any paid learning resources specific to medical students), support staff, Student Affairs, OUMSA,
compulsory events and any other relevant costs.
Our Response
Your request for this information is refused under section 18(g) of the Act as the requested
information is not held by the University of Otago and we have no grounds for believing that the
information is either held by or connected more closely with the functions of another agency. The
Otago Medical School does not categorise its budget to this level of detail – there is no obligation for
us to create information in order to respond to a request.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request, section 28(3) of the Act
provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate and review this response. However,
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Yours sincerely
Jo Pearson
