A Safety Audit has been completed for the Petone Station.
•
A painted buffer will be added to the path through the carpark, to give space between
parked cars and people using the path - similar to that on Hutt Road. Note a fence will
not be provided as this will increase the safety risk to pedestrians.
•
Signage will direct pedestrians to the existing underpass, however we cannot ban people
from walking through the new underpass.

Feedback received: Reinforced the need for a connection onto the P2M path south of
Melling
Dowse.
o
This requires agreement with KiwiRail for a new level crossing – something
KiwiRail is actively trying to reduce. It also needs to link into the local network
and will require coordination with HCC. This remains something Waka Kotahi is
keen to progress.

The Te Ara Tupua Alliance has been progressing the shared path design, methodology
ki Pito-One
and pricing work.
